This winter season, Big Sky Resort concludes its decade-long transformation with the debut of the new, two-stage Explorer Gondola. The high-speed, enclosed lift will carry skiers from base to summit—11,166 feet above sea level—with a mid-mountain learning zone and seamless access to 5,800 acres of skiable terrain. The expansion connects more of Lone Peak’s legendary bowls and wide-open groomers, making the mountain’s
once-intimidating scale feel effortlessly within reach for every level of skier. At the summit, a new glass-enclosed viewing platform will offer 360-degree views across three states and two national parks, with a transparent floor suspended above Big Sky’s most extreme terrain. Together, the new features not only makes Lone Peak accessible to novice, intermediate, or even non-skiers—it turns the summit into a year-round destination.
